So now that Matthew is about 2 we are entering the tantrum stage. I am wondering if any of you moms have some advice for me? The only thing that seems to make my little boy happy is food and t.v. I don't like that combo. Do you have any playtime/activity suggestions? Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with the tantrums? Especially at church. They're a nightmare.....

GRRR I have the same problem! the food and TV thing and also the church thing. I don't want him to get into the habit of wondering the halls during sacrament but I don't want everyone to hear him scream down the halls. I am at a loss too! sorry I don't have any advice but just so you know your not the only one! Let me know what advice you get!
If there was a tantrum at church, my kids got a time-out in the car. I would strap them in their seat, shut the door and stand at the trunk. They screamed all they wanted in there, but got it out of their system pretty quick. You just have to make sure that he isn't rewarded. Leaving Sacrament meeting and playing in the foyer or running the halls is definitely a reward. For activities, we do a ton of stuff outside... fingerpainting, walks, parks, sprinklers, chalk, picnics, reading, playdough...etc. There isn't any tv in the house, except occasional movies.
I have advice...I think. So Carsyn throwsa fit sometimes at church, so we take her to an empty room and sit in the corner with her on our laps, she hates it. We say to her "do u want to sit in the corner or do u want to be happy and go back and sit down and color" (or whatever u do to entertain at church) she always picks coloring and is happy the rest of the time. At home, one of the things we do is we have a little cd player and books that have a cd with songs and words. She will sit infront of that thing forever. We also play playdough at the table and when I'm making dinner, sometimes I take her clothes off and let her play in the sink. That's the best i got!
Hi Stephanie,
I have to say that play dough is a favorite in our house. It entertains all my boys for hours. You do have to put up with a mess on the floor but it is worth it when they are happy and learning.
PS Come to Sac. and visit anytime. ( :
